Yesterday we launched our big fundraising campaign to raise $20,000 towards publishing the 9th and 10th books in our Unheralded Artists of BC series! It will run for 33 days, ending on August 29th.

The Unheralded Artists of B.C. (UABC) is an unprecedented series of beautifully designed and well-researched books, illustrating and illuminating the lives and art of previously undocumented important artists of the 1900s-1960s.

Now, after nine years of hard work, amazing art sleuthing adventures; working with wonderful writers and artist’s families, great book celebrations and exhibitions, all while walking a financial tightrope, we are now reaching out for support for the publication of the next two titles, #9 and #10, in this unprecedented series.

It is a big undertaking for a small publisher (one-woman office) to continue with such a visionary and labour intensive project without greater support. The artists featured are not famous or well-known, so it has been hard to match expenses with book sales, but that is exactly why these books are important; these artists inform the deeper narrative of our cultural history.

The donations received for this campaign will give us the funds to complete production and publication of the extraordinary Life and Art of Mary Filer-UABC #9 by Christina Johnson-Dean, due out in October 2016, and help us move forward on the remarkable Life and Art of Arthur Pitts-UABC #10 by Kerry Mason, due out in October 2017.

During the campaign, we will be offering 35 amazing perks ranging from $20 and up. Perks are gifts and incentives you receive when you make a donation. These perks will include  a selection of our published books, original historical art by BC artists–Jack Akroyd, Takao Tanabe, George Fertig, Jack Hardman, Irene Hoffar Reid, Marguerite Pinney, Harry & Jessie Webb, Peter Paul Ochs, Rob Steeves and Mary Filer; time in our lovely cosy Seaview Retreat on Salt Spring Island; Happy Hour with us in our sun porch on Salt Spring; an introduction to letterpress printing workshop for two, and more.
We are hoping you value the series and will support us and help spread the word.

Thanks!
