Kick Start Your Writing
At the Whistler Public Library
Is 2014 the year to kick start your writing? Come meet other local writers, and participate in a discussion led by creative writing teachers Sara Leach and Rebecca Wood Barrett, on writers’ groups, writing courses and the Whistler writing community. The evening will be an opportunity for those interested in writing to meet others who would like to form a new writers’ group.
All levels are welcome to this free presentation, Sunday March 30th, 7 – 8:30pm at the Whistler Public Library. No registration is necessary. Leach and Wood Barrett will both be teaching creative writing courses this spring.
Two other workshop options for you:
Leach’s four-week course, Writing for Children, will have participants working through the steps in creating a children’s book manuscript. Craft topics to be discussed include: premise, character, conflict, plotting, powerful language and editing. Each session will include discussion and short exercises and students will be able to submit either a full picture book manuscript or several pages of a longer manuscript to Sara for feedback at the end of the course. The workshops will be held at the Whistler Public Library from 7-9pm on April 6, 13, 27 and May 4 (no class April 20) at a cost of $120 for four sessions. Contact Sara at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have questions.
Wood Barrett’s course Writing in the Spark House is a new, eight week series of two-hour writing workshops designed to ignite participants’ abilities to generate ideas, fuel a commitment to storytelling, and support the fire with an investigation into writing craft techniques. Participants are welcome to bring previously written work to the sessions for critique, or start afresh with new material. Each class will involve an exercise to get the pens rolling. The workshops will be held at the Whistler Public Library from 7-9pm, on May 11th to June 29th for a fee of $240 for eight sessions. Contact Rebecca at email@example.com for more info.
Pre-registration is required for both workshops.
