Volunteer with our Festival and Events
Thank you for joining our Whistler Writers Festival volunteer team!
We couldn’t do it without you.
We have a variety of volunteer roles to choose from, including:
- Ticket Taking
- Stage Manager & Assistant Stage Manager for events
- Driving Authors (you receive mileage and a ticket to one event)
- Zoom Crew for online events
Our volunteer policy is that if you volunteer for one shift, you’ll receive a ticket to attend one event, as long as the event doesn’t include food and drink. In that case, you can make a second choice. Book early as many of our events sell out. The length of shifts may vary, but generally they start before the event, and finish after the event. Please note, the Pitch Your Book/Idea Session is not available for volunteer participation as it is an event in high-demand with limited spots. To book your event ticket, please email Stella Harvey at stella_harvey@telus.net.
Volunteer Policies
Please respect the festival events, authors and patrons, and have your cell phones turned off during your volunteer shift. Your volunteer duties are very important to keep the festival running smoothly, and it is inconsiderate to be using your cell phone instead of attending to your volunteer duties.
Part of the charm of our festival is its intimate nature. We kindly ask that you please honour the privacy of the attending authors and speakers. Keep any conversations which arise on-shift relaxed. Please do not inhibit the authors’ preparation, nor their conversation with other authors or event speakers.
The Whistler Writers Festival works to ensure a healthy and safe environment for all participants, and address unsafe situations in a timely and effective manner. Please comply with any posted health and safety rules, and adhere to current COVID-19 protocols. Volunteers have the right to refuse any work if they believe there is a hazard to the safety of any person. The volunteer should immediately report the unsafe condition to their Festival supervisor. In case of an emergency, turn to the Festival Manager or the Venue Staff as they will know the plan for such an event, and the staff with First Aid.
Please let us know as soon as possible if you cannot make a shift. We can be reached on 604 902-4518 or stella_harvey@telus.net
If you let us know ahead of time, we can try to fill your shift. If not, this really puts us in a difficult position. Don’t be a No Show! We depend on you to show up for your shift and make this festival happen. Please don’t let your fellow volunteers or the Festival guest authors down.
Park for free in Day Lots 4 and 5, which are close to the Fairmont Chateau, Maury Young Arts Centre and the Whistler Public Library. After 5pm, parking is free in Day Lots 1 – 3.
Mileage costs will be reimbursed for volunteers who are driving guest authors. Otherwise, we do not reimburse travel, parking or parking tickets.
