A bicycle ride out and back through the Pemberton Meadows inspired the cover image for the 2024 edition of The Lupine Review, the Sea-to-Sky corridor’s unique literary and arts magazine, which today offers a sneak peek at the front of its latest edition.

“Heading north I spotted off to my left a field of dew-sprinkled live jewellery glowing in the morning light,” said Tom Thomson, who painted the work entitled Pink Sky Lupines, of his training ride that day through the Meadows. “Retracing the road south, I had to stop and sketch the lupines as the sky above Mount Currie in the distance was bathed in shades of pink.”

Thomson is among 25 local artists and writers who feature in this year’s edition of The Lupine Review, a magazine launched by the volunteering duo Colleen MacDonald and Abby Deveney last year. This year marks the second edition of the magazine, which showcases emerging local talent from the Sea-to-Sky region across 36 pages of gloss and colour thanks to funding from the Real Estate Association of Whistler. It’s a significant bump up from the 2023 inaugural edition of the magazine, which featured 16 local creatives over 28 pages.

The pair will unveil the full magazine at The Lupine Review: Second Edition Launch Party at the Whistler Public Library on Friday, October 18 at 6 p.m. as part of the Whistler Writers Festival. RSVP and get your free ticket online.
