Take the Plunge reading event

Open Mic Night with Leanne Dunic & Society Book Sale

Saturday April 20, 2024 | Doors: 7pm | Event: 7:15 – 9pm | Whistler Public Library

In-Person Tickets: FREE

Come join us for Take the Plunge, a night of creativity and community as we host a free Open Mic Night with local writers, and featuring Leanne Dunic, author of One and Half of You, To Love the Coming End, and The Gift. Leanne will read from her most recent work, Wet, a lyric novel with photos.

In Wet, a transient Chinese American model working in Singapore thirsts for the unattainable: fair labour rights, the extinguishing of nearby forest fires, breathable air, healthy habitats for animals, human connection. She navigates place and placelessness while observing other migrant workers toiling outdoors despite the hazardous conditions. In photographs and language shot through with empathy and desire, Wet unravels complexities of social stratification, sexual privation, and environmental catastrophe.

Whether you want to share your own writing or poetry, or enjoy listening to others express themselves, this event is the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in a storytelling experience. Register now to save your seat!

Want to read your own work (published or a work-in-progress) at the event? Email us at writers@whistlerwritersfest.com

We’ll also be holding The Whistler Writing Society Book Sale. Pick out some of the hottest books from our previous festivals and events to add to your home library!

BONUS! On Sunday, April 21 @ 9am, Leanne will lead a writing workshop at our One Day Writing Retreat at The Point in Whistler. Get retreat details and tickets here.

Leanne Dunic transgresses genres and form to produce projects such as One and Half of You (Talonbooks 2021), To Love the Coming End (Book*Hug /Chin Music Press 2017). and The Gift (Book*Hug 2019). Her most recent work is a lyric novel with photographs entitled Wet.
